What's this page all about?
This page is a journal of my trials, challenges, achievements and mistakes I have made during phase one of TILT. Overall the experience was amazing and the few bumps only taught me to remember technology can't replace great teaching; it only enhances it.
Marching into more technology!
As March stormed (and continued to storm) into our lives the technology stayed a bright spot. My favorite tool learned and used in March was Voice Thread. I loved it so much that I purchased the 12 month account! Students have enjoyed it as well as a few groups I work with.
Another accomplishment in March was to create a technology integration options for business teachers for FEFE. This document is currently being edited by our TCAI board but should be posted by June. Additionally, with a FEFE colleague we created prezi's for our master educator teams to teach them about web 2.0 tools that can enhance the personal finance classroom. Below is an example of one of the popplet we did on the right is a Prezi that was made by a teacher in Missouri and myself. |
April was full of showers but the rain & snow gives more tech time
Although creations in April have been slim I have shared many of the projects that I have learned in TILT and Cadre with teachers at a National Level. In the middle of April I created a weebly www.feferetreat.weebly.com to use as an educational tool. Everything was a huge hit and the teachers thought I was the luckiest person on Earth because I am in such an amazing professional development program, TILT. I agree with them whole heartedly. I have learned more in this year as a TILT member than I did in my last two years of college. Thanks!

February is full of love and I am Loving Google!
I thought I knew how to use a search engine and our D2 apps but I have been humbled.
Google offers so much more than I thought! On the right is a "slideshare" that Des shared with us that taught all I was missing with my old searching ways! I shared this presentation with my students and they LOVED it. After the presentation they created a brain dump in Wordle. |
Google is so much more!

A new year and new communication tools!
Skype and Google Video! Woot woot!
Skype has become a part of my weekly if not daily life. My family and I communicate through video skyping . It has been a wonderful experience for my son (5 years) to stay in touch with his grandparents.

December is chilly but the technology is HOT!
Well, if you read below (I know I wouldn't do that either) you will see that I only had one goal for December and that was to incorporate technology into the Savings and Investing Units for FEFE. I was succesful with adding the Poplet to the Savings Tools unit (see "Technology for Learning" for an example). THEN! My folks celebrated by birthday by giving me an iPad-can you believe it? Me either! 32 GB Wifi ready-it's soo awesome. So I spent several hours today playing and I love it. Connor and I have read books and practiced our phonics! So-goal for December is to play with the iPad enough to understand it and not more-ha-to learn but not obsess that's my goal :). To find out more about the use of the iPad as a learning and life tool see "An Apple A Day" tab.

ACTE-December 2010I was a bit skeptical about my learning capabilities in Las Vegas but I returned to Montana with valuable tools. The best session I attended was the tour of Zappos. Zappos.com is an amazing business and one that every administrator and business teacher should check out. Most of the philosophies can be found at www.zapposinsights.com.
Valuable websites I learned from Georgia Educators: Common Craft-This has a variety of extremely difficult concepts explained in short easy to understand videos. Bizkids-Where kids teach kids about money Prezi-Create interact fun presentations-no more boring PowerPoint Resources for Digital Storytelling from Andrea Mosenson: Story Cookbook-What is digital storytelling and the process of how to create one. Photostory by Jake-Tutorials and everything one needs to know about Photostory 3. Media by CogDogRoo-Lists of resouces to find licensed media to include in digital stories. Digitales-Groups of digital storytelling resources, examples & podcasts. Educational uses of digital storytelling- Great place to start with digital storytelling MACTE-October 2010Although learning at MACTE was of course a goal I didn't realize how much I would learn form my local colleagues. It is so refreshing to socialize with excellent teachers. Below I am going to list blurbs mostly for my own memory. Much of what I learned is also listed under "technology for learning". Thanks to all of the presenters and teachers who shared their knowledge.
Bonus Round (things I learned unintentionally)-this could be big!Compressing pictures in a Power Point to make the size smaller (thanks Nicole)
